Vacation in Puglia

Where the Ionian and Adriatic seas meet: in Salento, the southern tip of Puglia. Finis Terrae the Romans called the cape in Santa Maria di Leuca, the end of the world. The southernmost tip of the heel of visitors is appreciated for its vast olive groves, the fiery red fertile soil, the varied cuisine, the first-class red and white wine and its varied cultural landscape. The place.

Corigliano d'Otranto, with its 5,000 inhabitants, allows vacationers to immerse themselves in the authentic life of a small southern Italian town.

The weekly market with fruit, vegetables and clothes takes place in the piazza, children play in the streets and alleys - here people know each other and are happy about every visitor. Particularly worth seeing in Corigliano d'Otranto is the Castello de Monti, decorated with figures, which also offers guided tours and cultural events and yoga in the summer.

Wandering through the alleys of the centro storico, the culinary variety is particularly striking; there are numerous osterias, fish restaurants, pizzerias and trattorias with gardens or roof terraces. Corigliano D'Otranto is one of 13 excellent Borghi of Puglia that have received the "Bandiere Arancione", a tourism and environmental seal, from the Touring Club Italiano.

The sea.

There is hardly a more varied coastal landscape than in Puglia. Long sandy beaches and shallow rocky inlets alternate with gorgeous bays and high cliffs. From one village to the next, the landscape can change dramatically. After long sandy beaches along the coastal road, with cafes and supermarkets in the village, sometimes there are beaches behind extensive pine forests or dunes. For those who like solitude or are looking for adventure, there are also hidden coves and special sea accesses in a high fjord, between rocky caves or even natural seawater pools.

Every day from the Palazzo you choose a different bay: cliffs with turquoise waters or long sandy beaches like in the Maldives: Via two well-developed expressways you can reach the bays and coastal road of the Adriatic Sea within a few minutes.

The area.

The Mediterranean landscape is characterized by a fascinating cultural landscape of stone and olive groves: Between the ancient olive trees, the red fertile soil, the stone-age dolmens and menhirs it is wonderful to cycle or hike.

The surrounding pretty towns can be reached via quiet country roads. They are all worth discovering, such as Melpignano with its movie-worthy Piazza S. Giorgio, Soleto with its Byzantine frescoes in the church of St. Stefano, or Maglie, the lively town with its imposing Baroque buildings. In the immediate vicinity (6 km) is the town of Galatina, famous for its UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Basilica di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria.

The nearby university town of Lecce is often referred to as the "Florence of the South" and is a magnificent Baroque city with a well-preserved historic center. The city is a cultural and artistic jewel that must be visited.
